Let Us Be Your Guide
How the Drug Screen Process Works
We have to understand how the process starts from beginning to end, from sample collection, proper documentation (Chain of Custody), testing, verifying of the results (MROs), agency/administration guidelines, and more. We are the experts in this field so you can focus on the business.
Employee Drug Screening Process
Sample Collection
Donor arrives at collection site where they are logged in, information is gathered on the chain of custody form.
Donor provides the Urine Sample (sometimes with person present)
Guidelines set forth by the DOT, USCG, and other governing agencies determine the rules of which the collection site is to administer the donor collection.
The Urine Sample is Collected and sent to the Lab for Testing
Before sending the sample to the lab, the collector performs a series of "pre-tests" to make sure the sample is adequate.
The Sample is Sent To The Lab
The Chain of Custody Form is logged and sent along to the lab for documentation. One of 10,000+ Labs across United States are available for testing, so no matter where you are located there is a lab somewhere near you the collectors can send the sample to.
The Lab Performs Tests On the Sample
The lab performs a series of "panels" to test for various drugs & medications in the urine sample and render a result.
Test Results (If Negative)
We As the MEDICAL REVIEW OFFICERS review the lab results & validate the chain of custody. If the results come back negative we will pass that onto your employer within 24 hours or less, log it into our online portal, your employer can then login to view the results and chain of custody. The process is complete.
IF a "NON-NEGATIVE" is Rendered
We as Medical Review Officers review the results, contact the employee or prospective hire and ask a series of questions. If our physician (MRO) determines the result is accurate without just cause (i.e. valid prescription), it will be deemed and logged as a positive.
Notification to Employer
Substance Abuse Consultants notifies the employer of the positive determination, and your employer makes a determination on employment either by company policy and/or federal rules set forth by the governing agency guidelines.
